Warne says Australia can win World Cup with Smith and Warner

David Warner. Reuters file

Steve Smith and David Warner’s year-long exile has likely left them hungrier than ever and their return could spark Australia to World Cup glory, Test great Shane Warne said on Wednesday.

The star pair’s ban from state and international cricket for ball-tampering expires later this month and they are expected to be rushed back into the Australian side for the defence of their title at the showpiece tournament in England this year. Both players have recently undergone elbow surgery and the great unknown is how they will perform back on the world stage, particularly in what is sure to be a hostile atmosphere in England.

But Warne has no doubt they will be as good as ever, benefiting from the break rather than their skills being blunted. He is talking from experience.

Warne was suspended in 2003 for a year after testing positive to banned diuretic drugs.

Many wrote him off, but the leg-spinning legend quickly bounced back and enjoyed several more years playing at the highest level with the Australian team.

“Sometimes having an enforced lay off–like I’m used to, I had 12 months off myself–what that means is you become really fresh,” he told Fox Sports.

“You freshen your mind up, you become hungry again and realise how important cricket is to you.” Warne said both players would also “have a point to prove” when they eventually pad up again.

“That’s why I reckon Australia can win the World Cup,” he said, despite the team’s recent patchy one-day form.

“They’ll walk straight back in, they’ll be hungry. They’ll be a bit nervous in the first few games but that’ll be good for them, they’ll be excited and I would expect them to play as good as they always have.”

Newly-appointed assistant Australia coach Ricky Ponting echoed similar sentiments recently.

Both players are expected to feature at the upcoming Indian Premier League as they tune up for the World Cup.

Smith only returned to the nets last week from surgery in January after being forced to drop out of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament with a ligament problem.

Warner’s injury, sustained at the same event, was less serious and he could play his first game since then for his club side Randwick-Petersham this weekend. AFP

5 cricketers with the same-s*x marriage

The marriage of two persons of the same sex or gender, when entered into a civil or a religious ceremony is known as same-sex marriage. This practice was initially not accepted by society and there was a vast criticism about it. But as the world is progressing forward, people have become more open-minded and sensitive to other people’s feelings. This taboo is now being legally accepted in many countries all over the world.

The LGBTQ communities are fighting hard for their rights and some of the cricketers have led by example in recent times. They didn’t hold themselves back from letting the world know about their sexuality. These cricketers married the partner of their choice, even though the same gender, and protested against all the odds and reservations.

Here are five cricketers who were involved in same-sex marriage:

1. Alex Blackwell and Lynsey Askew

Alexandra Joy Blackwell is a former Australian woman’s cricketer. Born in New South Wales, Blackwell represented Australia in 251 international games. The vastly experienced campaigner decided to call it quits in February 2017 bringing an end to a 15-year-long career. Alex also captained her country for a brief while.

She came out as a lesbian in 2013 and was only the second cricketer after England’s Steven Davies to come out during the playing days. In 2015, she married her girlfriend of eight years Lynsey Askew in England legally. At that point in time, her country didn’t accept same-sex marriage.

Their conjugality was recognised in Australia only in 2017. Blackwell believes that sexuality is totally irrelevant and cannot determine how well a person can perform a role. In 2017, Cricket Australia also pledged support for the same-sex marriage along with 15 other sporting bodies in the country.

Photo feature: Homely – Modern – Ultra Modern

These women are successful, talented and really smart too. They look beautiful and behave with grace as well.    But they just looked like the symbols of three different categories of women that we see daily. One is Bhoomika Chawla in a modern yet homely avatar.    One is Anitha, Nuvvu Nenu girl who is currently busy with TV soaps at a pub in a modern avatar, where she is not too worried about how much skin is showing but about having gala time.    Another one is VJ Archana Vijaya. She became popular with IPL as an hot anchor. She seems to be the ultimate example open minded sensual girls out there. Don’t these three now make sense as modern women?

Drashti Dhami’s art of perfection!

Television actress Drashti Dhami has come a long way from her Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi days. Last seen in Silsila Badalte Rishton Kaa, the actress has a perfect fashion sense. She has an impeccable style and can slay any outfit with ease.

In Silsila, she rocked the sensuous look with sexy blouses and designer saris.

Drashti has enchanted the audience with her curly locks, shining face, and an attractive personality. As a part of her beauty regime, Drashti may be consuming a lot of water to keep her skin hydrated, and of course, following the three-step ritual of cleansing, scrubbing, and moisturizing daily.

Her bubbly personality and a cheerful smile can brighten up anyone’s day in less than a moment. What we like about Drashti is that apart from having a good dress sense, she has good knowledge of make-up.

She keeps on sharing her pictures on social media where her outfits and make-up game are always on-point. Check her out in the posts below.
