Anfield attack victim to mark recovery milestone when legends host benefit match

The wife of a life-long Liverpool fan left who sustained a serious brain injury in an attack by an Italian hooligan has expressed hope he will one day return to Anfield.

Sean Cox, 54, suffered major head trauma when he was struck in a random assault by a masked AS Roma supporter outside Liverpool’s stadium last April.

The former director of an electrical company, from the town of Dunboyne in Co Meath, will mark a major milestone in his slow road to recovery when his family accompany him to see a charity match held in his honour in Dublin on Friday night.

A Liverpool Legends team, managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish and captained by Ian Rush, will play an Irish Republic Legends side, managed by current international boss Mick McCarthy and captained by Robbie Keane, with proceeds going to Mr Cox’s rehabilitation fund.

Our #LFCLegends face @FAIreland’s XI this week in support of the SeĂĄn Cox Rehabilitation Trust. Tickets still available. ❤️💚

We look forward to seeing you all at the @AVIVAStadium on Friday 👍

— Liverpool FC (@LFC) April 8, 2019

The father-of-three is currently being cared for in Ireland’s National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire near Dublin.

His wife Martina said the game at the Aviva Stadium would be the first time her husband would be out in public since the attack.

“He’s going to be there which is great, I didn’t think it would happen a couple of months ago,” she said.

“It’s a big milestone for us. He has been out of hospital for a couple of hours before, but this is him out in the public arena for the first time.

“It will be quite overwhelming for Sean. He’s been home but literally only in our house, and he’s been with family.

“At the beginning (after the attack) we didn’t know how things were going to pan out, so to have him at the match is really significant.

Particular so for his brother Martin, because he travelled with him that day and they never got to see the match. It’s great for all of the family.”

Mrs Cox, 53, said she would love to see her husband one day well enough to return to his beloved Anfield.

“For him Anfield would have been a very safe place, because there had never been any incidents before. But unfortunately that day there was,” she said.

“Down the line when he’s well enough I would say Martin would definitely love to get him there – I would too.

“I’m sure Liverpool Football Club would love to have him there,  because he never got in that day.

Mr Cox, who turned 54 on Tuesday, will leave the facility in Dun Laoghaire in June. After that he is being moved to spend a number of months in a rehabilitation centre in the UK, with his family moving with him.

Mrs Cox, who lives with the couple’s three children Jack, Shauna and Emma in the family home in Dunboyne, said they have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people who have supported them.Sean Cox (left) with his cousin Richard, before he was attacked (family handout/PA)

She currently juggles a job as a buyer for the Dunnes supermarket chain with visiting her husband and fundraising for his treatment costs.

“Our lives literally have been turned upside down,” she said.

“He’s only been at home for a couple of hours twice in the last year, so his lack of presence in the house is sorely missed.

Around 25,000 fans are expected to attend Friday’s match at the Aviva Stadium.

“It’s heart-warming to see that so many people have reached out,” said Mrs Cox.

“I think they can really resonate with the story because the incident that happened, it could have been anybody.”

She added: “His care costs don’t end at the end of this year or next year – what happened to Sean is going to affect him for the rest of his life. He is going to need life-long care.”

Tickets for the “Legends for Sean Cox” match, which kicks off at 7.45pm on Friday, are available from Ticketmaster

Winx: Brisbane owners share story of fairytale ride

BRISBANE owners Peter and Patty Tighe readily admit racing a horse like Winx is a dream come true – and for six seasons they have wondered when that dream might end.

That time arrives at around 3.10pm this afternoon.

All going to script, the couple and fellow part-owners Debbie Kepitis and Richard Treweeke will celebrate the mare’s 37th career win (the last 33 in succession), a record 25 Group 1 successes and $26 million in the bank.

The Tighes, whose family has been synonymous with Brisbanes markets for generations, say the mare’s streak is beyond anything they might have imagined.

“Goodness no. This is something you do dream about and when it does happen you think it is a dream and when is it going to end,” Patty said. “She got to 10 wins, then 15 and 20 and it’s just kept going. It’s been incredible.”

Mr Tighe says it’s important to take frequent reality checks with Winx, who has had no equal in Australian racing for the past four years.

“You have to have a good look at yourself every now and then and wonder why and how it happened,” he said.

“I was at the (Sydney Easter) sales this week trying to do exactly the same thing. Buy another one.

“We know it’s not going to happen but we’re still here doing it. You have an impossible dream you chase and we’ve actually got the impossible dream.”

The Tighe family has been racing horses for decades but had to wait 20 years for their first Group 1 winner.

Now their Tighes’ Magic Bloodstock silks are the most famous colours in Australian racing at the moment and the eyes of millions of race fans around the world will be glued on their every move when Winx strides on to the famous Royal Randwick turf for the last time today.

Winx was bred in NSW and is trained there, but she has links to Queensland through the Gold Coast Magic Millions sales ring, where she was sold, and through the Brisbane-based Tighe family.

Queensland is also where her stunning winning streak began four years ago in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Guineas and Queensland Oaks.

As the winning caravan has rolled on, Winx has become a family affair for the Tighes.

Their daughter Nicole and sons Andrew and James and all their partners are part of a tight-knit crew who watch Winx every time she races. A few close friends are part of the ride as well.

At 10am today the Winx bus will depart The Star hotel in Sydney and make its way to Royal Randwick, which has been renamed RandWinx in the mare’s honour.

The family and friends will be on the unimaginable joyride for one last time.

“The kids have become avid followers. They love it. They enjoy the days and we turn them into a good family day out,” Peter said.

It was revealed this week the close affinity Patty has with the champion, with the pair regularly sharing a kiss and a cuddle at Chris Waller’s Rosehill stables.

“I like to go and see her and nuzzle up to her when possible,” Patty said.

“She’s not an overly affectionate horse, she likes her own company, especially of a morning. She’s all business and very focused.

“But in the afternoons she’s more relaxed and she does enjoy that contact.”

Peter noted Patty is an equal shareholder in Magic Bloodstock and has never put herself in the Winx spotlight, but one thing she does love is some quiet time with the horse of a lifetime.

“We were doing a photo shoot this week at the stable and Winx came to the front of the stall and never left us. She was nuzzling Patty’s shoulder and Patty’s giving her a kiss. It was just beautiful and that’s what it’s all about for Patty,” he said.

After she jets off into the sunset today, Winx’s next chapter will be to become a mum, something Patty is certain she will take to with the same champion qualities she has shown as a racehorse.

“I think she will be a very good mum. She’s always been very protective of whoever is beside her in her box,” she said. “If they go out to work she watches for them and waits for them to come back. I can’t wait for that part of her life. It will be really exciting.”

Peter recalls the day he stuck up his hand at the Magic Millions to secure Winx for $230,000 – a stretch on the amount the team had valued her at – as if it was yesterday.

“She was the only horse we bought at that sale,” he said.

“I sat with Chris Waller and (bloodstock agent) Guy Mulcaster and it was just amazing.

“I did the bidding and I don’t think we would have got her if I had let them bid.

“When you’re spending your own money you know how far you want to go and I just took it that little bit further, which secured her in the end. It was just fate that day.”

Peter says Winx’s most nerve-wracking race to date was last year’s fourth consecutive Cox Plate, but he expects this afternoon’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes valedictory to surpass that.

“It doesn’t hit you until Friday night, Saturday morning. That’s when it really hits home about the enormity of her task,” he said. “She means so much to us because she’s given us so much.”

Post this, the newly-weds will be hosting a reception party in May in Kolkata for his childhood friends.

While the preparations are in full swing, the groom-to-be had a hearty conversation with a famous online tabloid, BollywoodLife. Talking about his marriage, Sharad laughed off and said, “No one expected that I would marry so soon. They thought I would give it a year but then when you meet a person and strike that connect, you know it is right. I always believed that marriage will happen when it has to happen. I feel it’s right to marry now. But my friends are teasing me about being a runaway groom.”

Further sharing the pre-wedding jitters, he was quoted as saying, “Yes, there is happiness, a bit of nervousness and excitement. I have planned a few things to surprise Ripci. I hope I can pull them off nicely. I cannot reveal as it’s a surprise. Thankfully, I have a great team looking into the preparations. I do not have to stress much. The groom-to-be further revealed the excitement of his family and shared, “My mom is the most elated woman in the world right now. My sister has been married for a while now. For years, she has waited for the wedding of her son. Everyone is celebrating. In May, we will throw a reception in Kolkata for my childhood friends.”

Talking about his ladylove Ripci and what attracted him, he remarked, “I think I was fascinated by her love for travel. I love to travel but don’t get the time. Ripci has immense wanderlust. She has a lovely sense of humour. Moreover, she is an independent working woman. I love women who are financially independent and empowered. She is a very grounded woman. I do not need someone who treats me like a star. I want someone who keeps me rooted. Ripci manages to do this very well.” (Do Read: Riddhima Kapoor Sahni Shares Throwback Picture Of Rishi Kapoor With Granddaughter Samara Sahni)

Previously, in a media interaction, Sharad had revealed his typical arranged marriage meeting with Ripci, and had shared, “For a change, I didn’t date Ripci. Everything happened in an old-fashioned way for us, as we said a ‘yes’ without meeting each other much. In fact, she asked me recently why we didn’t date before deciding to tie the knot. It just didn’t happen.”

He had further added, “When I was introduced to Ripci, I had just come out of a relationship and was going through a difficult phase. Initially, we would just exchange occasional pleasantries on social media. It was only after Ganpati last year that we got talking on the phone, which was after my last relationship ended. What connected us probably was our fear of marriage. In fact, Ripci travelled the world for six years to avoid marriage, as the pressure on a girl at her age was mounting. I would have loved to do that, too, but I was constantly working. It’s only recently that our families got involved after we spoke over the phone for a few days. Both of us instantly realised that this is it and decided to take the plunge.” (Don’t Miss: ‘Kaliyon Ka Chaman’ Fame, Meghna Naidu Shares Her First Bridal Pic From Her Secret Wedding)

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Marazzo MPV races past the 25,000 sales mark in India

Mahindra launched the Marazzo MPV in September last year and it has gained quite a traction in sales since then. Now, the Nashil manufacturing plant of Mahindra has rolled out the 25,000th unit of the Marazzo. This comes at around 6 months from the MPVs launch in India. At the time of launch, Mahindra launched the Marazzo starting at Rs. 9.99 lakh which now has been increased to Rs. 10.18 lakh. There is no direct competition for the Marazzo in the market, save for the Renault Lodgy which is a very low seller.

The other popular MPVs on sale in India are the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (cheaper than Marazzo) and the Toyota Innova Crysta (expensive). This, in fact, leaves the ground empty for all the three MPVs and all of them have pretty impressive sales, with the Innova leading the sales charts in the MPV segment. Talking about the Marazzo, it is available in four variants – the base  M2, M4, M6 and the top end M8.

A DC modified version of the Marazzo is also available which comes with lounge-like interiors compromising of recliners, LCD screens, ambient lights, and chiller among others. Last year, the Marazzo scored 4 stars in the Global NCAP crash test and became the only MPV sold in India to do so. The Mahindra Marazzo MPV comes with dual front airbags, a passenger airbag off-switch, a speed-sensitive door lock/unlock feature, ABS with EBD and brake-assist and Isofix child-seat mounts as standard equipment on all its variants.

Marazzo Interiors

Talking about the engine and transmission, the Mahindra Marazzo is powered by a new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that’s been jointly developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong under a new engine family. The engine churns out a maximum of 121 Bhp of power along with a peak torque of 300 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the from wheels. According to Mahindra, the Marazzo is the world’s first front-wheel drive vehicle to have a transversely mounted engine on a ladder frame chassis. The same 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine is present under the hood of the Mahindra XUV300, albeit in a lower state of tune.

With the market trend tilting more towards the SUVs and MPVs, the sales of the Marazzo are expected to grow in the future. As for new rivals, no manufacturer has yet planned to launch an MPV in Marazzo segment. The next MPVs coming to India will be the Kia Carnival which will compete with the Toyota Innova Crysta and placed higher than that. Another is the Renault Tribe, which will take on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. There were some reports suggesting that Toyota could bring the Avanza MPV to India but that is not confirmed. However, if Toyota does bring the Avanza MPV, to India, it will give a good competition to the Mahindra Marazzo.

This is the sporty version of the new Suzuki Ertiga MPV

The new generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was launched last December in India. The MPV has become a hit here ever since it’s launch and the sales have been going on well for the company. However, Suzuki also offers a souped-up, sportier version of the Ertiga internationally. Called the Ertiga sport, this model comes with various body kits and different colour schemes among other changes which make it look sporty. Sadly though, Suzuki has no plans of bringing this to India, as is the case with the Jimny and the Swift Sport. Here though are some studio shots of the Ertiga sport which show the MPV inside out.

As seen in the picture above, the Ertiga Sport looks quite good despite being an MPV. It can carry a full passenger load in style, without the owner being called boring due to its racy looks. The front bumper is a new unit and gets a new lip along with inverted L shaped LED DRLs. The grille is also a chrome studded unit that looks pretty nice. It also gets stylish dual-finish 15-inch alloys that are not available in India on the regular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

As opposed to the regular Ertiga, the interiors of the Ertiga Sport are all black with a wooden trim running across the dashboard and into the door panels. The steering is a flat bottom unit and the wood finish in the centre is different from what we get on the Indian spec car.

Sparing the roof, the whole cabin has been draped in black to match the ‘sports’ moniker this Ertiga has been labelled with. While the beige interiors on the Ertiga available here is also not bad, the all black treatment is radical. The instrument cluster gets an orange hue outline instead of blue as on the Indian spec Ertiga. A push-button stop/start is positioned to the right of the steering wheel. Next to that are the controls for the parking sensors, the traction control and the LED DRLs.

The Ertiga Sport features a floating touchscreen infotainment system as on the Ertiga here but it actually is a different unit as compared to the 7-inch SmartConnect infotainment offered here. The auto climate control unit comes in all black too.

The rear end of the Suzuki Ertiga Sport is also souped up and gets a sportier rear bumper design. There is a silver scuff plate at the bottom centre along with skirting. The roof spoiler is a bigger unit than what we get here. Mechanically, the 2nd gen Ertiga Sport model gets the 1.5 litre K-Series petrol engine with 106 PS and 138 Nm – the same engine that’s found on the regular models. 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic transmissions are standard. Overall, it is quite a good looking car that makes the notion of owning a boring MPV an exciting one.

Hyundai India’s Creta compact SUV modified with all red leather interiors looks LOUD [Video]

The Hyundai Creta is by far the best selling compact SUV in the country and the second best selling SUV across all the segments, behind just the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The Hyundai Creta became a best seller ever since its launch and left behind the previous segment leaders like the Renault Duster among others. It is also quite popular in the modification circuits across the country and a lot of cool aftermarket accessories are available for it. However, the Creta featured below has received a mod job that is focussed more on the lavish interiors than exteriors. Let’s now take a look at the video below by Turbo Xtreme which shows this modified Creta in its full glory.

On the outside, the Creta here has received a chrome treatment on the bumper and some other places. The roof has been covered in pearl white paint shade which compliments the black colour of the SUV. A front bumper kit is also installed on the SUV for aesthetic purposes. Custom side steps have been added on the sides while the wing mirrors also get white paint treatment on them. Chrome garnishing is also added on the window sills and window visors have been placed to provide some shade on the interiors. The tail lights have been replaced with LED units with matrix indicators. A rear diffuser is also added at the back which further lifts the aesthetics of the Creta.

However, the interiors are where the major work has been done. The whole cabin bow sports a red and black colour theme which looks pretty good as well as sporty at the same time. Most of the dashboard panels have been painted red as are the door pads and A-pillars. Fake wood garnishing has been added to the central dashboard as well as various other areas like the AC vents and steering among others. This further adds a touch of royalty to the interiors and gives it a unique look. The seats have been draped with red and black leather and the same theme is carried in the rear too.

Further, an aftermarket audio system has been added on the Creta here which gives a boost to its in-car entertainment prospects. New floor mats have also been laid down which are two-piece detachable units. Such mats are easier to clean and also look good. Overall, this Creta has been tweaked on the outside but the real work has been done on the inside. It is one of those mod jobs which are less flashy on the outside and more focused towards comfort and great looking interiors. One can even go for full leather covering on the dashboard and door pads rather than painting them but that would increase the cost by quite a lot.Got a news tip, spy photo or video for us?
