Get ready because you will not believe that some of the harmful effects these common food combinations can have on your health if you eat them in high amounts. Stay tuned to find out why you should ditch your tomato and cucumber salad and go with something healthier. Now let’s explore some food combinations that can ruin your health.

10 Food Combinations That You Should Not Eat

Bananas And Milk

If you’re into fitness and love your morning smoothie bowls or a refreshing milkshake there’s a good chance you’ve had bananas and milk before. Bananas have tons of fiber and milk comes with a lot of calcium so it could possibly go wrong. The truth is although it’s one of the best breakfasts out there it’s really not that healthy for you when the two ingredients are combined. Health experts are starting to warn people of the effects the bananas and milk might have when combined together. Bananas and milk mixed together have been judged as heavy foods that might cause digestion problems and hinder your sleep pattern. It can also produce toxins that might cause a sinus congestion and make you more prone to having a cold, cough or even allergies.

Wine And Dessert

Most of us love to treat ourselves with a dessert and a glass of wine after a particularly tiring day. Wine and Dessert often don’t go together because the taste of one item can completely overpower or change the taste of the other. For example you can only pair certain types of wine with chocolate while wine and blue cheese should never be combined with. The main reason why this combination is completely awful for you in the first place is because desserts and wine both contain high elements of excess sugar that gets converted into fat and leads to weight gain when consumed regularly this could lead to serious heart problems and other health issues.

Third party image reference

Tomatoes And Pasta

Have you ever noticed that tomato and cheese sauce combination on pasta makes you sleepy and tired. It’s the effect of the three ingredients combined as they definitely don’t work together. Tomatoes are considered to be acidic and when combined with starchy food like pasta they halt the production of the enzyme that’s needed to break down the heavy starch. This is why you often get tired and incredibly bloated after eating pasta with tomatoes and cheese as your body needs a lot of energy to digest the food and in exchange it is fatigued and exhausted. When you add dairy into the mix you only enhance the potential digestion issues and only slow down the process and it’s not just pasta any starch has the same effect on the body when combined with tomatoes.

Black Tea And Milk

Adding in the milk to black tea could completely ruin those benefits. The chemicals found in milk can modify the biological activities in tea which as a result can decrease the actual health benefits of the drink. Molecular Biologists carried out a research on 16 women volunteers and measured the effects of drinking black tea with milk and plain hot water results showed that black tea promoted dilation of the blood vessels, but when milk was added to the test it completely stopped the dilation. The test has also been done on both cow and soy milk and the results were exactly the same. It was also noted that in this case taking tea with milk doesn’t even offer our calcium boost nor does it absorb milk proteins.

Tuna With Mayonnaise

Since tuna comes with tons of protein along with digestive chemicals it can cause an unwanted reaction when mixed with fats like mayo which require a breakdown of liver and gallbladder salts. Large amounts of fat like mayonnaise can cause slow digestion when mixed with protein like tuna. Of course you can still eat them but you have to make sure you’re creating the right balance between the two ingredients that will not only benefit the taste but also your longterm health.

Fruits With Meals

The reason behind it is that fruit goes through the stomach fairly quickly, but it takes its time to digest in the intestines. And when you combine it with heavy foods that take much longer to go through the digestive system it will digest even slower. Since fruits come with high amounts of sugar it will bring counterproductive benefits to your health. Instead of combining fruit with your meals you should always eat at 30 to 60 minutes before a meal because this will allow it to prepare your digestive tract and help your stomach work its way through the amount of food you’ll be eating. The enzymes will activate the chemical process of digestion and allow you to feel less tired and less bloated after a heavy meal.

Grapefruit Or Limes With Cough Medicine

It’s important to note that cough medicine should never be combined with fruits like grapefruit no matter how many health benefits it might have. Consuming grapefruit or limes with certain medicine can cause serious chemical imbalances that will stop the medicine from healing your body. These fruits come with high level of an enzyme that’s found in the gut and liver. This enzyme will deactivate some of the effects of the medicine, but increase unwanted higher concentrations of the drug which could lead to serious side effects. Side effects can include a heart block and an abnormally rapid heartbeat, the side effects of kidney damage have also been reported.

Fruit And Flavored Yogurt

This combination might be completely unhealthy for people with digestion issues. We’ve previously talked about the counterproductive effects eating fruit can have on your body. Yogurt is usually considered healthy, but try to stay away from those with fruit at the bottom no matter how tempting they might be. You could actually be consuming too much sugar if you’re not choosing the right yogurt type with the right amount of fruit. Fruit with flavored yogurt can double or even triple the sugar content you’re eating especially if you’re consuming yogurt with a sweetener. It’s also reported that the coldness of the yogurt can also have an effect on your digestion, this can result in stomach pain and weight gain as it can take a long time for the sugar to process in your system.

Mac And Cheese

Before you indulge in another plate, you might want to check where your mac and cheese actually came from. It turns out that the combination of the ingredients when mixed with a powder you’d get in a box version of mac and cheese might not be as healthy as we think especially if you’re expecting a baby. A recent study of cheese products detected high levels of chemicals called ‘phthalates’ which can disrupt male hormones and are linked to birth defects when the meal is consumed by pregnant women. Although the presence of these phalates isn’t banned, the Food and Drug Administration did warn federal agencies to assess the potential health risks they might bring to those who are expecting a baby.

Tomato And Cucumbers

Tomato and Cucumber salad is a refreshing choice that’s often considered healthy, but is the combination actually beneficial for your health in the long term? We’ve already mentioned the acidity of tomatoes and the effect they might have when combined with pasta, but tomatoes also have the same effect on some of the vegetables you normally put in your salad. They come with an enzyme that usually destroys vitamin C especially when consumed in large portions and since cucumbers are full of vitamins, adding tomatoes to your salad can completely ruin the nutritional benefits you thought you were getting. The acid released in the abdomen can also cause numerous digestive problems and can be one of the main reasons behind irritable bowel syndrome also known as IBS.

Sky TV’s Dave Clark: People think I’m drunk – I have Parkinson’s Disease

Sky TV's Dave Clark: People think I'm drunk – I have Parkinson's Disease

Dave Clark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011, at the age off 44 (Image: nc)

IT has only happened a few times and I try my best to ignore the nasty remarks but every time I am trolled on social media for having Parkinson’s, I am hurt and upset.

Once someone saw me walking to the supermarket and put something up on social media saying I looked drunk. I was not.

My medication was running low so I was limping a bit and looked dishevelled.

However, the worst one was in December 2017 when I was presenting the PDC World darts championship at Alexandra Palace.

Ladbrokes’ the bookmaker uploaded a picture of my face and someone there wrote: “Dave Clark looks like he’s caught the whiff of something nasty & wants to murder the person who caused it.”

I found that very upsetting so I responded with a tweet saying: “That’ll be the chronic degenerative neurological condition that will eventually rob me of the ability to walk, talk and smile.”

Looking back that exchange was a bit mad, but I couldn’t let that sort of remark be aired without reacting.

Dave Clark said ‘he couldn’t let that sort of remark be aired with reacting’ (Image: Twitter)

However, I was delighted when Ladbrokes donated £10,000 to Parkinson’s UK after that.

Now I just ignore the trolls because I want to keep my positive, optimistic attitude to life which helps me, my family and everyone I work with.

I was really moved and pleased in Belfast recently when a guy came up to me while I was doing the darts.

He said ‘Thanks for saving my uncle’ and I asked him what he meant.

He said his uncle was ready to end it all and then he saw me presenting the darts on Sky and it gave him the motivation to carry on.

He got a dog and started walking every day and he managed to turn his life around.

Meeting someone like that makes all the difference.

It was a lovely story to hear and I was left feeling so chuffed that I had been able to help this man because I know how Parkinson’s can get you down.

I was diagnosed in 2011 when I was 44 and I’m 52 now, having a great life, but I know what is coming down the line.

My right hand is a bit slow, I get a bit shaky if my meds are running out and some muscles in my face have gone which can affect my facial expressions.

I have to force a smile, which is quite hard. As well as walking with a limp I have to rush to the loo as my bladder is affected.

DAVE IS OPTIMISTIC: They are doing fantastic research (Image: nc)

Initially, I kept the diagnosis secret but it was getting harder and harder.

Two-and-a-half years ago I realised I had to go public.

I was anchoring a world title fight in Scotland and couldn’t do up my tie, put my cufflinks on and so on, but I couldn’t ask anyone for help because no one knew I had Parkinson’s.

The producer was saying ‘Where’s Dave?’ because the countdown clock was ticking away but I was really struggling and I needed help and support.

So I decided to write a newspaper article, explain the symptoms and I was blown away by the public’s positive response.

Now I’ve made some adjustments, which makes me feel more comfortable because I want to be as relaxed and happy as possible for the viewers.

I hold the microphone in my left hand as my right hand is a bit shaky and I have a facial mike, like the one used by Britney Spears, so I can put my hands in my pocket if I get a bit shaky and I am not selfconscious.

The public can so lift your spirits. Away from the cameras at home, I have fantastic support from my wife Carolyn and our sons, Harry, 16, and George, who is 13.

I try to live a normal home life but my energy levels aren’t what they used to be and I sometimes need an afternoon rest.

My movement isn’t good enough to kick a ball around with the boys but it’s great watching them play in matches.

I am still pretty active. A couple of years ago I did the coast-to-coast walk, which was 200 miles long, and I was delighted to raise some £500,000 for Parkinson’s UK.

We love adventurous family holidays. We’ve been to Cape Town, Australia, Africa, and we’ve watched bears catching salmon in Canada.

Travelling around the world with my family is fabulous.

It really keeps me optimistic.

I’m ticking off the bucket list all the time because you never know when it is going to hit you.

People with Parkinson’s have low brain dopamine production (Image: Getty)

Parkinson’s is a degenerative, chronic condition and there is no cure, so you end up not being able to walk and talk.

The part of my brain which produces dopamine, which gives me my sunshine and affects my movement, is dying.

I’m probably down to my last 10 per cent now, but I am still optimistic they’ll find a cure. They are doing fantastic research with plants and you never know what is around the corner.

I would say to people in a similar situation, don’t hide away, live as normal a life as possible and try to do as much as you can.

Don’t give trolls the time of day and look for the positives.

Next month I’ll be presenting the darts at the O2 in London.

When I’m on the stage in front of all those people I’ll feel like Bruce Springsteen.

I just can’t wait to feel that wonderful positive energy – that’s what keeps me going.

Does Your Hair Responsible For Acne

Does Your Hair Responsible For Acne

You might have never given this a thought – but can hair be really responsible for acne? Well, if you take a look at the possibilities, then you might actually start thinking that it could be true. But again, like there’s a solution to everything. But how? How do you get rid of acne caused by hair? And, first and foremost, how does hair cause acne? Here are some things to know about does your hair responsible for acne.

What Causes Acne? There are several factors that can cause acne – be it external or internal. Some of the prominent ones are listed below:

1.Dirt & pollution: Among the main causes of acne are environmental factors – dirt and pollution to be precise. Too much exposure to dirt particles can result in the outcome of acne. It is, therefore, advisable that you clean your face with clean water at all times.

2.Dead skin cells: Dead skin cells are another major cause of acne and pimples. For that, you need to keep your face clean and exfoliated. Use a scrub to clean your pores and remove dead skin cells, thus avoiding acne at large.

3.Excess oil production: Excess oil production in your skin can cause acne. Oily skin tends to invite a number of skin problems including acne. Therefore, if you have oily skin type, do clean it with water and use a mild face wash to get rid of oiliness.

How Is Your Hair Responsible For Acne? A sudden outburst of acne can really cause problems for you. But, to get rid of acne or to keep acne from reoccurring, it is very important to understand its cause.

4.Blame your bangs: If you have oily hair and bangs, then this is where you need to be careful. Why? Because oily hair might result into a lot of sweating. And, with bangs, your forehead could be a possible target area for the outbreak of acne.So what do you do? Well, the solution is really simple. Tie up or pin up your bangs until you get your oily hair problem solved.

5.Possibly forgot to shower after a workout: This is something you should take care of. Not only does this boost acne outbreak, but it is also very unhygienic. Always go for a shower after your workout. This will help to reduce skin irritation, acne and pimple outbreak, as well as keep your skin healthy. One important thing to remember here is that you must not forget your hair while showering. Use a mild shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair properly and air dry. Once it is dried completely, you can tie it up if you want. But never ever tie damp hair. What you should know about the importance of washing your hair after a workout is that sweat clogs your pores – especially the ones around your hairline – which might result in acne breakouts.

6.Could it be dandruff? How? Well, if you have dandruff, there are chances that it might fall on your skin as well as your clothes. When the flakes spill on to your skin, it might result in acne breakouts. It is, therefore, very necessary that you treat your dandruff first and then move on to treating acne and pimples. You can use an anti-dandruff shampoo and a mild conditioner – depending on your hair type.

7.Too much heat styling: It is so true. You might agree that too much use of anything is bad. But how is it related to hair and acne? Well, hairstyling products are meant for the hair, but when they come in contact with your skin accidentally, they might result in acne breakouts. Why so? Because hair styling products are oily and when they come in contact with your face, they can easily clog the pores on your skin. But, it does not mean that you should stop using these styling products – just limit its usage and you don’t have to worry!

8.Blow drying is a major no-no: Imagine you are in a hurry and have washed your hair. What do you do? It’s quite obvious that you cannot step out with damp hair as your hair might become unruly after it gets dried. So what do you do? Well, most of us resort to blow drying our hair in this case. But guess what? Blow drying your hair might result in acne. How? Because blow drying your hair can result in dry scalp. This is when your scalp starts producing excess oil to compensate – which in turn results in acne.

9.Hairstyling products: You might be familiar with this. Everyone uses hairstyling products at some point – be it hair serum to maintain your tresses or using a leave-in conditioner. But have you ever thought that using these products on a daily basis can actually harm your skin and cause acne? How? Some leave-in conditioners, as well as hair serums, contain petroleum by-products which tend to clog pores, thus resulting in acne.

These are the things to know about does your hair responsible for acne.

Worried about Puffy eyes, Here is a solution

  1. Water
Worried about Puffy eyes, Here is a solution

To stay well hydrated, drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water each day. In addition to this, you must reduce the amount of salt you eat to reduce water retention in the body. Also, avoid caffeinated and carbonated beverages that can be dehydrating.

2. Tea Bags

Put 2 used tea bags in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Lie down and put the tea bags over your eyelids. Leave them in place for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat a few times a day.

3. Cucumbers

This remedy will also help get rid of wrinkles and dark circles around your eyes. Cut a cucumber into thick slices. Chill the slices in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Place the cold slices on your eyelids for about 10 minutes or until they become warm. Repeat the process several times a day.

Take the egg whites, separate the yolks from 2 eggs and put the whites in a bowl. Whip the egg whites thoroughly until you get a stiff consistency. Add a few drops of witch hazel, a natural skin-tightening astringent. Use a brush or soft cloth to apply this mixture under your eyes and allow it to dry. Leave it on for about 15 minutes. Do this daily for a few days.

4. Potatoes

Potatoes are also effective in getting rid of puffy eyes. The starch present in potatoes has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce under-eye bags. Peel, wash and dry a medium-size potato. Grate the potato and put the shavings in a clean cloth and tie it up. Place this cloth over your eyelids for several minutes. Repeat the process several times until the puffiness subsides.

Bengaluru Wins ‘Healthiest City’ Crown: 5 Things the Garden City Is Doing Right

Eat right, sleep early, exercise hard, repeat—a popular mantra for a healthy living. Simple enough to say but excruciatingly difficult follow. There are, however, varied parameters that go into deciding whether a person is living a healthy lifestyle. If one goes by a recent study, then Bengalureans seem to be doing it right.

GOQii, a preventive healthcare company, conducted a study which hails the IT-hub as India’s healthiest city. The study took into account the BMI, lifestyle diseases, stress, sleep, food habits and smoking and alcohol levels of the citizens to arrive at the conclusion that among the urban Indian areas, Bengaluru is the healthiest of cities, followed by Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai.

Just like other metros, Bengaluru too has to deal with heavy traffic, work stress and other urban issues. So what are Bengalureans doing differently to rise above the rest and maintain their fitness through it all?

Here, we have a list of five things that contribute to the health of the city:

1. Going the organic way:

Bengaluru Wins ‘Healthiest City’ Crown: 5 Things the Garden City Is Doing Right

A healthy diet begins from where you buy your groceries. As the awareness for chemical-free, organic food is rising, Bengalureans are hopping onboard the fitness wagon-not just for the sake of the trend but because they are aware of the importance of consuming organic and eating green.

With farmers’ markets blooming across the city and high-end stores encouraging the sale of organic fruits and vegetables, more and more citizens in the Silicon Valley of India are opting for a chemical-free diet.

2. All work and no play makes Bengaluru a stressed city . . .

. . . but not if the citizens can help it. You will find gyms in almost every nook of the city but Bengalureans are not relying solely on the heavy equipment for their daily dose of exercise. Rather, it is the bouldering gyms and dance classes that are helping shed the extra fat and maintaining flexibility of the city.

Gyms that are open 24*7 and badminton, tennis courts allowing players without membership are great motivators for professionals who work late or indefinite hours. But despite its busy routine, Bengaluru manages to get a healthy 6.56 hours of sleep!

3. The Garden City

Source: Flashbulbzz Photography/ Facebook.

An early morning walk in the serene parks of the city will greet you with a sight of young children, working professionals and retired senior citizens all exercising together. On one side of the park would be a group of Yoga practitioners, taking in lungfuls of deep breaths of fresh air while young and old joggers do their regular rounds on the pavements.

On weekends, you will also find slack-liners doing amazing acrobatics on their ropes. Try it out, the professionals will guide you till you get your balance right!

4. A millet paradise

Millet-idlis, millet dosas and even millet ice-creams, you will find several dishes to your liking made from the humble millet. Once the centre of Karnataka’s food culture, the millet had almost vanished into oblivion for the past few decades. However, Bengaluru is bringing the millennia old food back into vogue!

From stores that sell millet products to restaurants that make delicious dishes with it, millets are making a grand comeback on the plate and are boosting the health of its citizens. Take this zero-budget millet restaurant for example. It is furnished with upcycled material and serves everything from the traditional puliyogare, dosa, Bisi Bele bath to laddus made of millets. You can read about it in detail here.

5. Plogging

Source: Plog.run.

Combining fitness fad with the urgent need to clean our environment, plogging is an exercise that should be encouraged in more and more cities. Plogging finds its roots in the Swedish phrase ‘plocka upp,’ which means to pick up, so joggers who collect all the plastic trash that they encounter on their way turn regular jogging to plogging. What was started in 2016, emerged as a global trend soon after and Bengaluru wasn’t left behind in catching up with this green, fitness idea.

The proactive citizens of Bengaluru went so far as to collect 33,355.6 kg plastic in a drive that lasted 12 hours to set a Guinness record. Keeping fit and keeping the surroundings fit too. If that is not the mark of a healthy city and we don’t know what is!

From individual ‘ploggers’ to organised runs, Bengalureans are taking to the streets and parks to ‘plog’ their city clean! You can read more about one such organised run here.

Kiwis are small fruits that pack a lot of flavor and plenty of health benefits. Their green flesh is sweet and tangy. It’s also full of nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin E, folate, and potassium.

They also have a lot of antioxidants and are a good source of fiber. Their small black seeds are edible, as is the fuzzy brown peel, though many prefer to peel the kiwi before eating it.

  1. Can help treat asthma
  2. Aids digestion
  3. Boosts the immune system
  4. Reduce the risk of other health conditions
  5. Can help manage blood pressure
  6. Reduce blood clotting
  7. Protect against vision loss

Eating kiwi fruit is regarded as safe for most people. The main exception is for those who are allergic to the kiwi fruit. The signs of a kiwi allergy include itchy throat, swollen tongue, trouble swallowing, vomiting, and hives. Your risk for allergy to kiwi increases if you’re also allergic to hazelnuts, avocados, latex, wheat, figs, or poppy seeds.

In rare cases, kiwis could slow blood clotting, increasing bleeding. This could increase the severity of bleeding disorders. If you have a bleeding disorder or are about to have surgery, avoid eating kiwis.

Proof of God? Man given months to live makes REMARKABLE recovery thanks to ‘MIRACLE’

Tom Renfro noticed a number of lumps on his neck and arms and went straight to the doctors. He was diagnosed as having mantle cell lymphoma, a rare fast-growing disease and doctors gave him months to live. Mr Renfro claims he refused medical attention, instead opting to put his hope in his Christian faith – claiming God would intervene.

He revealed during Morgan Freeman’s National Geographic series “The Story of God” how the story unfolded.

He told the 2017 show: “You are looking at a true miracle of God.

“It was in 1996, in the fall of that year, that I found a nodule on the back of my neck.

“Later on that fall, I found more under my arms, and so I sought medical attention.

“The biopsy under my arm showed that I had an unusual form of lymphoma called mantle cell lymphoma.

“The prognosis was very poor and they gave me months to live – they told me ‘enjoy what time you have left’”.

Mr Renfro went on to reveal how his family and friends from a local church came together to pray for his health.

He added: “The goal was to stay alive through Christmas, but I was a physician and I knew the evidence that was there.

“I was in multi-organ failure – I had a disease that there was no medicine or cure for that would wipe this disease out.

“I did not have any medical treatment, not at that time and the tumours continued to progress.

“As they progressed, the people came together more and more intense with prayer.

“People would come and pray, sometimes even all night and it was remarkable.”

Mr Renfro then claims to have experience the intervention of God, who told him it was time to go to the hospital.

He continued: “The tumours were the size of apples on my neck and my arms stuck out because of the massive adenopathy under my arms, my abdomen was expanding.

“But the Lord actually spoke to me and said ‘now is the time to go to the hospital’

“So they started an infusion and it was like the rock that David threw at Goliath.

“Before the infusion even completed, there was something that changed in my physically.

“The tumours became very soft and started disappearing, it all vanished in 24 hours.”
