A month after unveiling the first ninth-generation Core processors, the well-known giant chip manufacturer, of course, I am talking about Intel has recently announced its new server chips: the Xeon Cascade Lake Advanced Performance (or Xeon Cascade Lake AP), as it was named, can count on up to 48 cores in a single unit.

Yes, it’s an impressive feat. As currently, the company’s most powerful server chips are the Scalable Processor (also known as Xeon SP), which has up to 28 cores and 56 threads. In the new line, the manufacturing technology continues to be 14 nanometers – Intel chips with 10 nanometers should only appear by the end of 2019.

But what did the well-known giant chip manufacturer, of course, Intel do to significantly increase the number of cores? The “Cascade” in the name gives a clue: instead of deploying multiple cores in a single chip, the well-known giant chip manufacturer, of course, Intel created an array of chips and put it all together into a single “package.” It is as if the Xeon Cascade Lake AP was made up of several chips. This is a building architecture called Multi-Chip Package (MCP).

It’s not an unprecedented approach, it’s worth pointing out. The rival AMD already adopts a similar technique: Epyc processors are composed of four arrays, each with eight cores, which makes the whole chip to hold 32 cores.

Interestingly, at the time of the release of Epyc processors, the well-known giant Chip manufacturer, of course, Intel commented that AMD’s multi-cores approach could lead to performance inconsistencies or implementation difficulties in data centers.

In fact, the approach in question points to a decrease in the risk of inconsistencies. The higher an array, the more likely there are defects due to the significant increase in the number of transistors. The use of smaller matrices together tends to reduce the appearance of problems. This is probably one of the factors that led Intel to bet on the MCP.

As the performance remains an important factor, the giant chip manufacturer, Intel claims that Xeon Cascade Lake AP processors can be up to 20% faster than the Xeon SP chips. In comparison to AMD Epyc processors, performance is up to 3.4 times higher, still according to Intel.

However, it was not clear if Hyper-Threading is supported, which would make the number of threads reach 96 per chip. It is expected that the first Xeon Cascade Lake chips will hit the market in the first half of 2019 when we should then have more details about them.

Another recent innovation from Intel for the segment is the Xeon E-2100. It is far more modest than the Cascade Lake chips, yet it brings enough firepower to servers that handle non-demanding applications: the model has six cores and 12 threads, and supports ECCmemories. The Deep Learning takes basics of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and focuses on solving real-world problems from deep neural networks that mimic the way our brain makes decisions. Yes, it uses the data it knows to make decisions about new data. Hence, it is the technology which is quite most similar to human brain functioning.

These networks are logical constructions resulting from a series of binary questions (true or false, yes or no) from which a numerical value is extracted; each time it incorporates a new data string, it transfers it to that neural network and classifies it according to the answer to those questions.

This classification simply allows you to process a huge amount of data, but at the same time, we have to accept that they are also very complex though they seem interesting. It was just like recognizing people in a photograph.

As they convey emotions like joy, seriousness, shyness, but the fact is that these people are not real, as they do not exist. They have been generated by an AI (artificial intelligence), and are impossible to distinguish if you are not an expert.

The photos have been created by the AI (artificial intelligence) of the website “ThisPersonDoesNotExist“, whose sole purpose is to create photos of people who do not exist. Each time you reload the page a new, completely unique person will be generated by the AI of the portal.

The ability of AI (artificial intelligence) to mix eyes, noses, mouths with the same skin tone, and generate a natural face that does not seem weird, leaves us speechless. Hence, the applications of an AI capable of inventing people are really terrifying.

The website ThisPersonDoesNotExist has been created by Philip Wang, Uber engineer, who has used research carried out by the graphics chip maker NVIDIA. It is an artificial intelligence that has been trained with thousands of photos of real people.

This AI uses a type of neural network called GAN, which takes all this information and invents completely new faces, which do not exist and it is not a simple cut and paste. As we see in the images, artificial intelligence knows when a nose hits a forehead or when the eyes fit with a mouth, so that it looks like a real person, and not a collage of human faces.

The algorithm to achieve this was created by an investigator named Ian Goodfellow. The well-known company, NVIDIA has used it to create its own AI, called StyleGAN, which can not only be applied to faces only, as it works for everything.

Since it is an open-source algorithm, there are developers who are using it to make artificial intelligence to invent graffiti or new fonts and not only that even this new AI is even able to invent anime characters as well.

Now the faces are not enough, as the AI ​​is now capable of generating, from scratch, photorealistic images of people with the whole body, of course, the people who do not exist, but who have their own faces, hairstyles, and clothing, in simple word Fake Humans.

Only a few months ago, the generation of false photorealistic faces through Generative adversarial networks (GANs) was one of the examples of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) that received more attention from the general public. Then came the false rooms, false Gates, the false ‘manga’ characters, and much more.

Today all that has been a mere appetizer of what was to come. Now the faces are not enough, as the AI ​​is now capable of generating, from scratch, photorealistic images of people with the whole body, of course, the people who do not exist, but who have their own faces, hairstyles, and clothing, in simple words Fake Humans.

Like so many other AI advances, this also has the both positive and a negative side, as it is one more step towards the erosion of the credibility of multimedia material, increasingly less reliable as a source of information thanks to progressively more realistic deepfakes. Moreover, apart from all these things it offers a fast and cheap system (above all) to produce clothing catalogs.

The algorithm that made this possible was developed by DataGrid, a technology startup based on the campus of Kyoto University in Japan. Its engineers decided to overcome the problems suffered by the generation GANs of faces, avoiding including much of the unnecessary information that could confuse the AI.

For this, they chose to place on a homogeneous white background the models that posed in the photos used to train the system. Hence, now we can say goodbye to asymmetric elements or strange color spots that could highlight the nature of the generated images.

In DataGrid they had already managed to develop their own face generation algorithm, but they are looking for ways to give their digital models a greater ‘expressiveness’, for which they bet not only to generate entire bodies, but also to give them a sense of movement as well.

According to the latest reports, recently, a group of researchers from the University of Michigan, in the United States, has claimed, that they have managed to develop the world’s first unhackable processor, which is known as MORPHEUS. This all-new unhackable processor is capable of executing data encryption operations so fast, that its algorithms change at a faster rate than a hacker can act against them, hence, it provides much greater security than the defense mechanisms of the current processors can provide.

A group of researchers from the University of Michigan, in the United States, has claimed, that they have managed to develop the world’s first unhackable processor, which is known as MORPHEUS.

This all-new unhackable processor is capable of executing data encryption operations so fast, that its algorithms change at a faster rate than a hacker can act against them, hence, it provides much greater security than the defense mechanisms of the current processors can provide.

If anything could stand out the last year 2018 was the huge number of serious vulnerabilities that were discovered in the processors of AMD and, especially, Intel. As the well-known flaws like Meltdown, Specter and, more recently PortSmash and SPOILER have driven the researchers of both companies crazy in their attempt to solve them.

However, a team of scientists from the University of Michigan, led by Todd Austin, has just presented its new architecture for processors, called MORPHEUS, which is capable of blocking attacks on the processor of the devices where it is mounted.

For this, the processor is able to change certain aspects of its architecture completely and randomly, so that an attacker never knows what he/she is trying to access accurately. But, more importantly, MORPHEUS is able to do this job extremely quickly and with very low resource consumption.

Basically, the key to the security that the all-new MORPHEUS processor wants to provide is that the processor changes certain components of its code known as “undefined semantics”. This component simply refers to, the location, size, and content of the program code.

Hence, if any case, an attacker wants to use these data, which are usually fixed, he/she will not be able to locate them permanently, as 50ms later he/she will have changed to other values. This rate of reordering of the code is several times higher than the most modern and powerful techniques of hacking that are used today with current processors.

The MORPHEUS architecture was installed, fora demonstration, in a processor with RISC-V architecture, which is an open source chip that is used extensively in the development of prototypes. With this processor, MORPHEUS underwent “Control-Flow” attacks, one of the most aggressive techniques used by hackers in the world. And it simply managed to overcome all the attacks that were carried out with complete success.

As expected, the ratio of impaired processor architecture code has a cost in resources of the system. However, scientists have developed MORPHEUS and claimed that the cost of such resources is only 1% and the speed with which the code becomes random can be varied, depending on what the processor is going to be used for. This also includes an attack detector, which analyzes when one of these could be occurring and accelerates the speed based on this data.
